Perinatal vs. Postpartum
While often grouped together, it is helpful to clarify the timing of your symptoms.
Perinatal Depression: Depressive symptoms that occur during pregnancy.
Postpartum Depression: Symptoms that begin after childbirth (can start anytime within the first year).
The "Baby Blues": Short-term worry and tiredness that usually fade within two side weeks of birth. PPD is deeper, lasts longer, and requires professional care.
"The transition to parenthood is one of the most profound biological and psychological shifts a human can experience. If you are feeling overwhelmed, disconnected, or persistently sad, please know: It is not your fault, and you are not alone.
At Mindful Wellness Associates, we provide a safe, trauma-informed space to navigate the complexities of maternal and paternal mental health. Our integrated approach looks at the intersection of hormonal shifts, sleep deprivation, and the emotional identity changes that come with a new baby."
Signs It’s Time to Reach Out
Feeling "empty," numb, or disconnected from your baby.
Intrusive, scary thoughts that won't go away.
Severe mood swings or outbursts of "postpartum rage."
Changes in appetite or inability to sleep even when the baby is sleeping.
Withdrawing from friends, family, or partner.
